( lydia's brain is, in fact, quite a bit better than she lets on more often than not. it's a lot easier to play the dumb card when she looks the way she does, she's learned over the years. she doesn't go out of her way to hide it from the people she cares about, which is why root knows she's smarter than she looks, but she keeps the facade on pretty much any other time. it's amazing what people will let a pretty, dumb girl get away with, sometimes... )
